New Toy, well almost.

Saturday, May 29th, 2004

Well I was looking at my Sony Handycam, trying to think of things to do with it. Now being the guy I am, I have an ideal that would require a pumpkin, a fire poker and my girlfriend dressed like Tinker Bell. Obviously, shes sold that costume a long time ago. So that’s out, how ever I did have another ideal. Put up a WebCam on this site so all of my visitors….That’s you chief….can spy on me. So the link is up top and I could be on or I couldn’t. Lets see how many people will tune in and see whats up with me.

Sony ericsson for Macintosh

Thursday, May 27th, 2004

So I was asked by my girlfriend to find her a “FMA” for her iMac. So after a little searching I found PhoneAgent by MacMedia. This thing does everything! This thing has a Phonebook, a SMS message editor that acts like the one on Fma, MMS messenger, Theme Maker, File Exchange, Wap bookmarks, and Notes. I looks like you can do any that you can do everything FMA does but only for the mac. She has yet to use it as I have yet to get it connected (I have a hard time with the mac). It Boasts that you can grab images from you iSight camera for use in a MMS message. That’s kinda nice. I like the idea of taking pictures from a cam then the phone, if I could help it.

There is a trial of this program and there are some hefty restrictions on the trial. Like you can save the theme, or upload it to your phone. Uploading a mms message, or the phonebook memory. Without being able to upload or save a theme file I find it kinda useless. There is a price to register, which to me is kinda high, I guess I’ll keep looking.

Sony Ericsson T610 as modem for your bluetooth enabled laptop.

Friday, May 21st, 2004

first make sure you have your bluetooth dongle installed and your phone paired with the computer your going to use.

Open “My Computer” – “My Bluetooth Places”
Inside the Folders panel on the left of the window should be an entry “My Bluetooth Places”. Expand this entry and then expand the entry “Entire Bluetooth Network”. This will show you all of the bluetooth devices paired with your computer.

Click once on your phones entry on the list. This should display all of the available services on your phone. If Dial-up Networking is displayed then keep reading. If not you will need to enable it on your computer using the My Bluetooth Places window.

Right click on Dial-up Networking and select the configure button in the middle of the window. This will open up a new window with a title of “BluetoothConnection Properties” You should see an entry in the “Connect using:” window called “Modem – Bluetooth Modem (your com port here)” make sure this is checked.

Make sure the “All devices call the same numbers” box is NOT checked.

Under “Phone number for Bluetooth Modem” you will enter *99***N#. For N you should use your CID number. This can be found on your phone.

once this is done you will click “OK”

Now is the sometimes tough part. You will need to know the user name and password for your GPRS service provider. Mine is Cingular and if you need these please email me.

Double click the dial up networking icon. Once the “Connect BluetoothConnection” window pops up (looks like dial up networking for a regular modem) you will enter the User name and Password for your provider.

after that, click dial and start to surf.

The Invasion Begins

Monday, May 17th, 2004

If you live in the eastern United States then you know what this means. If you don’t, then you are lucky, very lucky. It happens every 17 years, and when it does no one is safe. They do not spare anyone, no pet, plant, or person is shown mercy. What is this most terrible evil am I talking about? The Cicada(Brood X).

The cicada is a bug with beady red eyes and big transparent wings with a black body. They appear every 17 years and do only one thing, have sex. They live there whole life underground until they need to do the dirty dance. After they get there rocks off usually about 6 to 8 weeks they die. Yes die. The female cicadas lay their eggs in a tree branch, after which the eggs hatch and the young fall to the ground and start to burrow down to feed on the roots of trees. The are not harmful to anything except to young trees.

during the time they are here you can hear the songs they sing. If you have never heard it, it sounds like a weed whacker engine. In fact they are attracted to the sound of the engine and anyone using such device. They can fly, but not well. They like bright clothings and sweet smells (at least from what I remember). So if you are coming to this side of the US you may want to wait till after June. Or you could be attacked by these crazy little things.

SphereXP

Friday, May 14th, 2004

Yo! I just tried out a desktop replacement tool. It’s called SphereXP. This is a kick butt desktop, the ideal is that you are sitting inside of a ball, and looking out to the surface(the wallpaper) of the inside of the ball. There is a little 3D rendering of the sphere in the lower hand corner so you have a reference point. If you are a linux user then you will be happy that they are looking for some help. You need Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 to install and run. I like SphereXP becaues, not only is it a new thought, but because it seems to run nice. It does seem to take up some memory, it has 100.4k tied up right now as i type this. Hopefully, the creator will find a way to trim it down.

The Menu in the lower left corner is my taskbar, it is done using ObjectBar. Screenshot
