Growl

I upgraded the OS on the iBook to Tiger today. So far its really cool. I really like Dashboard. With a single push of a button i have a calculator, weather forecasts, calendar, holy crap there is all kinds of stuff you can do with it. Tiger also comes with a dictionary/thesaurus. Which is really good for me because I have the worst spelling ever. EVER! The Thesaurus is really handy also, since I have a vocabulary of a 5 year old. You can also place a Widget on your Dashboard so you don’t always have to open it. Just gracefully press a button and Waalah! you have all that kick butt shit on your desktop.

Being the rookie i am with a Mac and its OS X. I’m sure there are much more interesting and advanced features that I know nothing about. One thing that I liked when it was Panther was Expose. Those Function keys have become a regular key stroke. Who needs a taskbar when you have that little feature and a dock. But i know about the dock. I used to use RKlauncher in Windows. It worked well, it even had a special minimize effect for when you sent a program to the dock.

Going with FAT

So as you know if you used the scroll I am a new owner of a used iBook. This has been my first time really using a Mac and I was worried about pure function of it. I haven’t really tried the iTunes yet because I used it on my Compaq laptop, so I already know my way around it. iPhoto, well, I am in much need of a camera upgrade. So until i get replacement for my Olympus Z500 Digital camera. Which is so old it came with a (now unsupported) serial cable. I may not use it much.

I’ve gotten the Ext HDD going. I have backed up all my music and now I’m in the middle of packing up the rest of it. I keep it really organized so only MUST KEEP stuff is on there Music, Photos, Book, Server Backup. It’s all on there. After I have it all figured out i will format it to FAT32. I have read that Macs can read and write on FAT drives but not on NTFS. Thanks Bill! ya had to change it again with longhorn too huh?

Silly new Xbox

Silly new Xbox. Why cant they learn from others mistakes? I think one of the biggest selling points of the Sony Playstation 2 when it came out was the backwards capability. That was pure gold to me. Although i won my SP2 thru a contest i was still going to get one. Hell i had a library of titles already. It was a no brainer. I really think that if it didn’t have it, it wouldn’t have taken off like it did. So now i have to buy new games to play on the new box. One plus about it is that it will come bundled with Halo 2 on the HD. Damn greedy Microsoft! More titles sold the more money they make, and the consumer looses out.

So damn easy

Saturday, May 28th, 2005

Why are there not more people using Macs? I mean come on, it’s so damn easy to use. So far I have installed Dreamweaver mx trial, and the trial of ecto. I borrowed a dvd burner from someone at work to maybe help with the converting of the external HD and to install Garageband with. I figure I could burn dvd-rw disks with what’s on the ext HD and then reformat it to a FAT drive. Right now its a NTFS drive, i hope i don’t run into problems.

So i noticed that there is a good preformance with the iBook. Could it be because of the fresh install? I really hope it’s not going to lag as i add programs. Not that there will be many to add. I also notice a pause while typing. I can’t be typing faster than it can keep up can it? How long do you think this iBook will last? I’m thinking it will go for a few more years before it becomes way to slow.

It Finally happened

I got my mac. I am now a proud owner of a 12″ iBook. Not sure of how i’m going to get around to using it. I have been a windows user for my whole life. I have many, many, many programs for windows and not many for a mac. Along with trying to convert my external HD to mac from NTFS without loosing any data. I have all my music on that drive and I have nothing big enough to transfer it to and I really don’t want to loose all my music. I have to find a web site program, maybe dreamweaver. I also need a blogging program, W.Bloggar doesn’t work with mac, so that is a must have.

If anyone out there in blog land has any suggestions I would love to hear them. Being this is my first attempt at using a mac I want it to go as smooth as possible. This isn’t a new one I should say. Its kinda old, although all the software I have found (minus games) will run on it.

The stats on my book are: 600mhz G3 12″” iBook with 384megs of ram and a Cd Rom. I wish it had a burner in it but oh well. For the price I paid, I think it was a steal. It does need a new battery (does anyone know of a recondition program for iBooks?). But with the magic of ebay i’m sure I can find one under the MRP.
